The Hungry Caterpillar

The sun is shining today and its not freezing outside!!! And,after a quick round of errands this morning, Cole was finally able to go outside to play and burn off some energy! While we were playing, we noticed a caterpillar on the ground. So, Cole had a little fun with him! Meet Cole's new friend, "The "Hungry Caterpillar."

Chase @ 9 months!

What a day! Chase had his 9-month check-up with Dr. Trites this morning! He is still growing like a weed:

Height 28 1/2" (60th percentile)
Weight 22lbs. (75th percentile)
Head 44.8 cm. (45th percentile)

He is, of course, meeting all of his milestones and right on target! We discussed his helmet and how well he is doing with it. The doctor was down right impressed with how rounded his head is now, and even said Chase is the first child she has ever seen in all her years that has that THIS much success with a helmet!!! WOO HOO!

We also discussed his torticollis and the use of Botox to "cure" it. She, too, was skeptical and leery of injecting Botox into his neck. I asked her what she would do if it were her child, and she said, "They had better sell me a very convincing argument because I don't think I would do it." My sentiments exactly. But, since the Torticollis Clinic can't see Chase until May anyway, I'm hoping that he drastically improves on his own before then. I'm keeping my fingers crossed anyway.

And, while we were at the doctor's office, I looked down and noticed his first tooth had finally popped through!!!! And, he has a second one about to come in as well!!! (I guess that would explain why he has been so grumpy the last couple of days!)

Latest pic of the boys!

No real news to share today! The boys are doing good and finally seem to be over the viruses! Just wanted to share a picture I took yesterday! (You may not recognize Chase with his hair combed down! Its still a little damp in the picture because as soon as it dried.....BOING! TROLL HAIR!!!!)

I knew it was too good to be true!

Ok, so I DID end up jinxing myself by saying that the boys were all better now. DOH! I had to take Chase back to Urgent Care last night after 4 days of drinking almost no fluids. Turns out, he still has the ear infection and the Amoxicillin he was taking was making him sick to his stomach. That would explain his over-active gag reflex lately and why he wasn't wanting to eat. Hopefully his new meds will do the trick and my little guy will be feeling better soon!

Chase is crawling!

Chase pics

Update on the boys!

I'm happy to report that I think the boys are finally feeling better! (Although I almost hate to say it for fear that I have probably jinxed them!) At one point, Cole, Chase and Daddy were all sick and throwing up. I'm not exactly sure how I managed to skate through without picking up any germs, considering I have been thrown up on too many times to count over the last week. And, now that we're all feeling better, I'm sure my poor washer and dryer will relish the break since I've been doing laundry non-stop for the past 5 days!

At any rate, I'm looking forward to Cole finally being able to go back to school tomorrow. He has been so sick lately that he has only been to school 2x this whole month!!! Poor kid is stir crazy and ready for some fun with his friends.

We did get out of the house for a bit on Saturday. We took the boys to the World of Wheels car show, where Daddy was showing our '34 Ford. Spongebob and Dora were both there, but Cole wouldn't get within 20 feet of the giant characters. But, the highlight of the show for Cole? Lightning McQueen!

Other than the short outing to the car show, we have been at home trying to get well! Mommy's biggest challenge now is getting the boys to eat. Cole won't eat more than 10 bites of food all day long. And, Chase isn't taking his bottles. I'm lucky to get 4 oz. of formula down him a day.

I wish I could just give up eating for a few weeks.....

Valentine's Day re-cap

Since "the plague" was going around our house, the boys weren't really in a festive spirit on Valentine's Day. And, poor Cole missed his party at school that he was so looking forward to. But, thankfully Nonnie saved the day by going to school and dropping off Cole's Valentines and picking up all the fun party things that Cole was missing out on. So, he celebrated at home by reading all of the Valentines from his friends at school.

Here are a couple of pictures of Cole addressing his Valentines:

Aunt Robyn sent the boys a box full of gifts for Valentine's Day. Although they loved their gifts, I think the biggest hit was the box and tissue paper!

Spoke too soon

Obviously I spoke too soon in my last post when I said Cole was on the mend. Evidently, he picked up a terrible stomach virus when we were in Urgent Care on Sunday. He has been throwing up since Monday night. I took him back to Urgent Care today to have him checked for strep since he is also complaining of a terrible sore throat. Thankfully, he tested negative for strep. However, whatever he has is viral and there is nothing we can do but wait it out and hope none of the rest of us come down with it.

So, after a stop at Target on the way home from the doctor's office to get him a new game for his Leapster, he has been on the couch or in bed most of the day. Mommy spent the day disinfecting the house, washing bedding, and cleaning carpets. Thank goodness it was a balmy 40 degrees outside today because we even had the windows open for several hours trying to get the germs out of this house!

Poor kid is even going to miss his Valentine's Day party at school tomorrow...

More doctors visits!

This week has, once again, brought many trips to doctors' offices! Is it bad when they know us so well they don't even ask our names anymore when we come in?

Thursday we saw the orthotist for another adjustment to the helmet. All in all, Chase has made amazing progress and he will contine to wear the helmet through a few more adjustments. Hopefully he will have it off permanently by late spring!

On Friday, we went to physical therapy. Ms. Amy referred us to the Torticollis Clinic as there is nothing more she can really do for Chase. His head rotation is much improved (when we started, he could not turn his head past center and now he is nearly to his shoulder!), however his tilt is not improved at all. Our first visit, Amy measured a 5 degree tilt and Chase is still measuring the same 5 degrees now. Although it is slight, it is still something we need to have evaluated further as this tilt could lead to scoliosis down the line. Obviously, we are open to any suggested treatment, however my concerns about Botox have only been further raised after hearing the new FDA warnings regarding babies and Botox. Read about it here. I'll make the appointment and just see what the doctor has to say about my little guy!

And, finally, today we took the boys into Urgent Care. Chase woke up with a yucky, oozing eye and just generally not feeling well. Since we were already headed to the doctor's office, we figured Cole might as well tag along and get his ears checked while we were there. Turns out that Chase has an ear infection. But, the good news is that Cole may finally be on the mend. His ears are still full of fluid (which may take up to 3 months to drain!!!), but they are no longer infected.

C'mon spring! I'm looking forward to all of us kicking this virus to the curb once and for all, Chase's helmet coming off for good, and warm weather! Darn that groundhog for jinxing us with 6 more weeks of winter....

Hives: Round 4

I was getting Cole dressed today, when I noticed that he was (again) broken out in hives! (FYI -- we all STILL have the plague around here. 3 rounds of antibiotics and no one is any better.)

Mom: Oh no, Cole! You're broken out in hives again!
Cole: Awwwwww! But, Mommy!!!! I'm all cracked out! God will have to climb down here on his ladder and put me back together!
Mom: (laughing) No, Cole. When you have a rash or hives, you say "broken out" to describe it. It doesn't mean that you are broken or cracked!
Cole: Yes it does. I'm all cracked out! Do you think God will need a drill to fix me? Maybe you should just trade me in on a new Cole. This one is old and cracked.

Home at last!

Sorry for the bloggy break! Mommy and Daddy have been gone on a much-needed vacation! We spent a week in the Caribbean and Bahamas on a cruise! We had a wonderful time and, although we missed the boys and couldn't wait to see them, we were not ready to come back home to snow and ice! Here are a few highlights from the trip:

Our ship

Our 4x4 Jeep excursion in Samana, Dominican Republic

At a waterfall in Samana

Devil's Beach, Tortola, British Virgin Islands

Mountain biking on Water Island (near St. Thomas), U.S. Virgin Islands

Great Stirrup Cay, Bahamas (NCL's private island)

View of our ship from Great Stirrup Cay

We had an awesome time! Lots of sunshine, perfect weather, and tons of beach time! The boys also enjoyed their "vacation" while staying with Nonnie, Baby Grandad, MomMom and Big Grandad. But, they were also happy when Mommy and Daddy came back home! I don't think Cole has ever given us so many hugs and kisses voluntarily before! :)
