Powell Gardens

Chase and Mr. Grumpy at Powell Gardens!
The boys love to visit Powell Gardens each summer.  And, this year was made even better because the theme was Legos!  There were many sculptures throughout the exhibit made from thousands and thousands of legos.  The boys were fascinated with them!

(Ignore the grumpy face that Cole has in this first picture.  By the time we got to this part of the exhibit, Mr. Grouchy was ready to leave.  Or visit the fountain.)  :)

FINALLY - the part they boys had been waiting all day for!

End of Baseball Season

Whew-----we made it!  Can you hear that huge sigh of relief from this momma?  Although Cole really liked baseball season (well, after he got over the initial shock of the first game!), I'm super glad this season has wrapped up.  With this being Cole's first year, he was really in over his head much of the time.  The other boys had skill levels that were so much more advanced than our little Cole - the boy who was never interested in sports before.  So, the fact that he made it all season and didn't get hurt?  Whew!

We are proud of him for trying his best and not giving up - even when he really wanted to.  Way to go, Cole!

Cole's 9th Birthday

Cole had a couple of options for his birthday this year:  (1) Invite 10 friends over for a science experiment birthday party (the option I just knew he would choose), or (2) invite 1-2 friends to go out somewhere.  After we saw the science lady in Harrisonville one day, Cole was super excited about booking her to come to our house for his birthday party. He talked about it all year long.  But, when it came right down to sending out the invitation, he totally changed his mind!!!

Instead, he asked if we could take Evan (the neighbor boy) swimming.  So, that's what we did!   Cole really wanted to go to the water park, but the weather was unseasonably cool and rainy.  And, we couldn't really plan on the weather being nice enough.  So, we opted for the indoor pool at Legacy Park instead.  And, they still had a great time!

After swimming, the boys were hungry (of course!).  So, we decided to go to Pizza Street so they could just eat until their little tummies were full!  And, after a day of swimming and pizza, we took Evan home.  Only Cole wanted to stay and play at Evan's house for a bit.

By the time he got home, that was one tired (but HAPPY) boy!

Happy Birthday, Cole!  I can't believe you are 9 already!!!!

Summer Birthdays!

Since the boys' birthday are really only a month apart, AND because when one has a party the other is jealous that it isn't his special day, this year we decided to combine the boys' birthday parties into one!  We weren't quite sure how that we be received by either of them, but I think it turned out well!

The hardest part was choosing a theme for the party since the boys definitely had differing ideas on that.  But a few days before the party they finally reached an agreement and decided that a John Deere party would be the way to go!

Happy Birthday, boys!!!!  :)

New Bikes!

The boys received some pretty awesome birthday gifts (as they usually do!).  However, this year, they received an extra special gift from MomMom and Big Grandad - NEW BIKES!  While visiting one day, apparently the boys told them that new bikes were going to be in order this year.

The night before their birthday party, their bikes were delivered!  And, these were a couple of really happy kids!

Chase was a little apprehensive about riding his new bike since it was bigger than his old one.  He has just recently mastered riding without training wheels, but the size of this new bike scared him without the safety of the training wheels.  So, the training wheels will be put back on for a short while until the little daredevil works up his nerve again.  I'm sure it won't take long!

We love our gifts!  Just what we wanted!
