I'm not sure how we pulled it off. Maybe it was because we carefully planned every detail without breathing a word of it to the boys. But, somehow we managed to throw a surprise party for NaNa and PaPa!
It wasn't an easy feat, that party. You see...it was an OUTDOOR party. And, there was the whole issue with the weather. Would it rain? Would it be so hot that we couldn't subject our guests to sweltering in the heat? Oh, and let's not forget that just a few days earlier we didn't even have a deck on the house!!!! (Yeah...talk about some motivation to get that project completed!)
And, then there were the actual logistis of how we were going to take care of setting everything up? (And that included 2 locations...the deck AND the building since we had booked a band to play in the building), prepping food, tables, decorations, etc. You know...the million little details that go into such an event. And, how on earth would we begin to accomplish everything with 2 little boys underfoot who needed stuff? Like, you know...food to eat, our attention, and let's not forget that they are ever so helpful...
So, we hatched a plan. We told NaNa and PaPa a little white lie. We told them we were going to a company picnic for Chris' work. We asked them to babysit for the afternoon and held our breath waiting for a reply. Thankfully, they agreed! *whew*
So, Mommy and Daddy took the boys to NaNa and PaPa's house and then flew home as quickly as possible to begin the preparations! Shortly, the band arrived to set up. The catered food arrived. And, even a few guests arrived (1.5 hours early!). Yikes! But, it all came together as planned. Lots of friends and family arrived...and we all waited for NaNa, PaPa and the boys to arrive...who thought they were coming by for a quick bite to eat. What they really got was a surprise party (a little early) for their 60th birthdays! And, hopefully they were surprised!
We couldn't have asked for the evening to have been any better. Good food, good company, good music, and great weather! The rain and heat both held off and it was a perfect night!
Happy Birthday, NaNa and PaPa!!!
