We left last Friday afternoon, after Daddy and Cole (who had went to work with Daddy!) worked a half day. Mommy and Chase spent the morning packing and everything was ready to load up in the truck as soon as Daddy got home. And, we headed south! The boys were pretty good during the LONG car ride. As we were driving, we thought it was be fun to stop at Lambert's Cafe ("home of the throwed rolls") for dinner. However, with a line of people out the door and halfway around the building, we decided that wasn't such a great idea. So, we continued to Branson, feeding the boys fruit snacks along the way to muffle their cries of hunger from the backseat!
Once in Branson, we ended up at Shorty Small's for dinner. PaPa recommended it and it turned out to be a great place to eat! Great atmosphere and fantastic food! (Or, maybe it was just that we were so hungry by then that anything would have tasted good! :) After dinner, we drove/walked around a bit taking in the sights and then finally headed to the hotel. The boys were fascinated with the hotel and they were very careful to only use their "hotel voices" (which meant not yelling!)
We started out on Saturday morning by visiting the Krispy Kreme for breakfast. Our poor, sheltered children had never been to one before. And, they were fascinated with "the donut factory" and loved watching the donuts being made. We were even given fresh, still warm, donuts to sample while we waited in line to order.
Chase thoroughly enjoying his breakfast!
After breakfast, we headed out to Silver Dollar City! And, even though the temperatures were topping 100 degrees, there was enough shade and water rides that we never really felt the heat! And, it turned out that Chase was just big enough to ride most all of the rides! (Literally, he was 1.5" over the minimum height!) It also turns out that Chase is quite the thrillseeker! He loved every ride he went on. And, the faster and crazier, the better!
Cole, on the other hand, wasn't quite as carefree. The poor kid panicked while waiting in line for nearly every ride. He argued that he didn't want to go. Nervously jumped around and kept saying he wasn't going to ride. And, then when we finally sat down in the seat, he was a wreck. He nearly cried every time. Until...the ride was over. And, promptly upon the ride stopping, he would announce, "That was AWESOME!!! Can we do it again?!?!" I was really proud of him for getting on those rides and not having a single meltdown on a ride!
The great train robbery! Stick 'em up!
Got any gold, silver, or dollars?
All 4 of us on the teacups!
Cole and Chase riding the caterpillars. I think this was their favorite ride!
Cole after getting water IN HIS FACE on "Fire In the Hole!" (Can you believe he isn't crying?!?!?)
After a LONG (and fun!) day at Silver Dollar City, we left in the evening. The boys were so tired, they crashed out before we even left the parking lot!
And, they missed the short drive we took over the dam of Tablerock Lake.
After a short drive (and a VERY short rest!!!), we opted to stop for dinner since the restaurants get really crowded in the evening. We thought it best to beat the rush since we had 2 tired kiddos! After dinner (and because we're obviously crazy!!!), we decided to do Ride the Ducks. The Duck ride was really fun and the boys loved it! (Well...Cole didn't love the splash down into the lake so much...)
But, Mr. Daredevil loved being on the water! (Look at him trying to hang over the side to see the water!) And, come to think of it, this was the boys' first boat ride!
Saturday was a long, tiring day. But, we had so much fun and created so many memories for the boys! :) And, the evening finally ended when we went back to the hotel and the boys, excitedly put on their PJs, and got to sleep in a hotel bed for the first time! Well...I guess that wasn't exactly the end of the night....
Cole decided that he needed to use the bathroom at 10:30pm and clogged the toilet!!!!! Mommy and Daddy were laughing hysterically trying to figure out what to do at that point. Do we call the front desk and have them send maintenance up at this hour (bear in mind we have 2 extremely tired kids!!!) or just leave it and figure it out later. Yeah...we opted to leave it. And, the boys were taught another life lesson....peeing in the shower! (Ha HA!!!!)
Here he is....posing in front of the toilet the next morning!
"What'd I do? Is there a problem?"
Oops!
Here's Chase, the next morning, eating what's left on the donuts! Look at that...every mother's nightmare. A 3-year-old hopped up on sugar and Coke.
After breakfast, we decided to make one more quick trip back to Silver Dollar City. We had 2-day passes and the boys really wanted to go to "the creepy house" one last time. Plus, Daddy really wanted to take the cave tour. With the cave near the front entrance, it was our first stop. We waited in line for 15 minutes. We listened to the tour guide talk about the conditions we would find. And, we even made it all the way down the tons of steps into the cave entrance. And, that's when Cole panicked. One look inside the wet, cold, dark cave and he was having no part of it! So, while the rest of the tour went on, our family trekked back up the steps and skipped the cave tour. (Sorry, Daddy!)
And, then we headed straight to the haunted house! We even met the Marshall along the way and the boys got their very own deputy badges!
The "creepy house"! (The boys' favorite!!)
And, that was about it! We left Branson around noon and drove home! We figured the boys would sleep most of the way home. Uh...nope! Not a wink. And, trust me...it was a LONG drive home! :)
