No more helmet!!!!

Last week, the orthotist told us that Chase had no more adjustments left in his helmet and that, as far as he was concerned, he could stop wearing it. However, we had to wait for the official determination by the plastic surgeon. And, that's where we headed off to today.

I had to take the original plaster casting of Chase's head (which, by the way, is a little spooky carrying around your child's head on a stick!) from back in December. That way the doctor could compare his head then and now. He was amazed at the difference! And, he, too, agreed that it was time to lose the helmet!

What a relief to finally be rid of that thing! Although I'm thankful that we were able to get him this treatment, it is such a relief to be done with it! No more trips to the orthotist's office. No more visits to the plastic surgeon. No more daily cleanings of the helmet and making sure Chase's hair is washed every single day. Hopefully, life will be a little easier for all of us with it gone!

Both the plastic surgeon and orthotist felt that Chase made an approximate 60% improvement. And, although those are "typical" results, I feel like they are excellent considering we were originally told to expect only a 30% improvement. His head still isn't perfectly round. And, one side of his face is still slightly larger than the other. But, ya know what? We don't care! It isn't that noticable by anyone other than us (and that's only because we know its like that!). And, we would think he was adorable even if he had 3 eyes and 4 noses! :)

Woohoo! Congrats on loosing the helmet. And congrats on the great success. And, I couldn't agree with you more... Chase is an absolutely adorable little boy. That smile of his can bowl you over in a second! :) What great news!
