March update

Seriously? Has yet ANOTHER month gone by without an update? There just doesn't seem to be enough hours in the day anymore. Not to mention that without internet access at home, its incredibly hard to update the blog from work! Hopefully that will all change very soon!

Let's see....what's been happening with us?

Chase
Unfortunately, Chase wasn't able to discontinue physical therapy as we had hoped. Seems he took a little backslide with the head tilt. It was clear that the torticollis wasn't completely gone the last time we visited Ms. Jenn. So, we're going to continue the therapy for the time being. With any luck, he'll graduate soon!

In the meantime, he continues to amaze us every day! His vocabulary is growing by leaps and bounds and he gets cuter by the minute! :)

Cole
Cole went for his Kindergarten screening recently and passed with flying colors! He scored an "Above Average" rating in several areas, which according to the teacher, is not an easy feat! The screening was supposed to last 45-60 minutes. When an hour and 15 minutes had passed and he wasn't finished, I began to worry! I thought maybe he was refusing to participate or that he needed further testing or something. Instead, the teacher emerged from the classroom all smiles and telling how "fascinating" Cole was! She was amazed at how his mind worked and at his vocabulary and storytelling ability and said she wished she had even more time to chat with him to find out how his mind worked! Whew....what a relief! :) She even went so far as to say that he was the perfect child! (Ha ha! If she only knew the real Cole.....)

Aside from that, he continues to visit The Joshua Center bi-monthly and we are working on meal time issues currently. The counseling seems to be helping in that regard.

His behavior lately has left much to be desired. Nonnie, Mommy and Daddy have been at their wits end with his behavior most days. Clearly, his anger and outbursts are something we need to focus on right now. His psychiatrist recommended a drug to help with it, which in a complete fit of desperation, we conceded to try. However, instead of improving the situation, it had the complete opposite effect and actually made his behavior much, much worse. We immediately took him off the meds and are now focusing on other options, including the DAN! approach to treating autism. We are now seeing a DAN! doctor and have very high hopes that this is the right path toward getting him the help he needs.

He will be going to for a blood allergy test on Friday. After we get the results, I am certain we will be going gluten-free, casien-free (GFCF) in our household!
